As Toastmasters - My First Post

Joined Beechi Toastmasters Club in the year 2015. My passion towards speaking, I thought of investing my time with like minded people. When we want to improve ourselves in certain skills, It is necessary that there is a conducive environment. As a behavioural therapist and coach I am aware of the importance of environment, so I searched for a club near my residence.

I have visited toastmasters clubs in 2007 but I did not make a decision to join. Mean while I joined JCI and climbed the training ladder as national trainer and administration ladder as zone president of zone xiv in the year 2015.

More than my passion it is my drive in me that made me to be in constant touch with my speaking ability. Every moment my experience with club was enriching. Each meeting helped me to fine tune my speech, experiment new ideas and learn new ways. Every interaction with fellow club member helps us unearth ourselves and the way we need to understand ourselves in catering to the needs of others. Initialy I took sometime to get into club roles but soon I took roles.

2016 second term I got an opportunity to serve in the capacity of VP Education, this helped me to be very close with club members, understand them and coordinate with them to present their speeches as well as for roles. What I have learnt in the process is that of how I handle the crises in terms of last minute changes to make things as normal for smooth meeting to flow. In the process I was well aware of my internal self and the ways it was helping me to deliver my self.

Mentoring is one that I love most in Toastmasters, As I learnt it off late that for one to be successful one need a mentor with whom the mentee need to maintain a very open and transparent relation. As a club every one had helped in my progress and I can also say that when it came to change in my mentor, my mentor was very understanding and kept the point of mentee choice is more important in his or her growth than personal differences. This was a profound learning if you ask me in my journey.

I am very comfortable to share, express and try new ways in the club. This provides a very safe environment which is very essential in learning and most importantly in adult learning environment.

As I am writing this, I have been elected as President for this term along with enthusiastic and knowledgeable team.

Lot of discussions happening with in leadership teams of past and present, Interesting as always to wait to understand to the point where the whole thoughts converge and take this further.

With this blog, I will be sharing my experiences, insights, journey as Toastmaster, I am sure you will find this meaningful.

Jey.
